Popsicle Art

I shouldn't play favorites - I know that...but you can forgive me knowing that this little ray of sunshine is my first and only God-baby and her equally beautiful siblings all share a special place in my heart.

I shot these in their backyard on a beautiful sunny afternoon in NJ. The mood and the feeling invoked by the sharing of popsicles inspired me to do some creative editing on them - beyond the normal B&W.

The light seemed to want me to soften the colors they wore into this pastel magic - and I couldn't say no.

My Beautiful Family

Just a few snaps from a Post-Wedding Family brunch last week in Port Jefferson NY.

First Cousin of the next generation.....

The happy couple enjoying their wedding cake for breakfast - how great is that??

Cousin Jack - What a handsome boy!!!

New Neighborhood

Big boats, beautiful birds and lots of lizards EVERYWHERE!

That pretty much sums up the new neighborhood!

The Big Move

What a long time it has been. Taking 4 months off posting on my blog would be considered completely unacceptable....if I had anyone besides myself reading it!

Moving is never fun. Moving across the country by yourself with your dog and cat is even less of a good time - but after 6 days, 5 motels, 3 major rainstorms and one check engine light going on later - we made it to our new home in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The biggest crime of it all was that my camera stayed packed away for the first 2 1/2 months that I was here settling in! I didn't realize how terrible it made me feel until the day I pulled it out to take a walk around my new neighborhood with the pup. I felt as though I had been missing a limb all that time and didn't even realize it! My camera is back in action and all is right with the world for now.

I have seen some interesting things so far - and have much to explore, but my favorite was running into this local man and his "gussy girl", making me think Ft. Lauderdale may just have some real potential for photography!

Little brothers

Another set of beautiful children that I have been lucky enough to have seen from the times they were born. Jonas is almost 4 and his brother Christian is almost 2.

Kids are tough - but little boys are even more challenging to photograph as sitting still is not a concept they yet grasp! I had to chase them all over the beach and the playground - making it a game - but in the end it was lots of fun and worth it!

Family of Friends

Ahhh my little Raguse babies are growing up so fast! I love shooting my friends families - watching them grow and change. Mom and I were remembering when Jackson was born and now he just turned 4! In addition now he has his beautiful sister Ryan to play with!

Family portraits are a tricky thing because you are at the mercy of children and their ever changing temperaments. We had a few moments of light before the clouds completely blotted out the sun and the cold wind picked up - making it un-ideal for our youngest subject - but we did capture a few.

Jackson is such a sweet older brother to his baby sister Ryan. We got to play for a few hours which was so wonderful! Then we got some of these wonderful family moments.

I felt a little sad during this shoot. We plan to do another in the next few weks - but knowing I am moving away from LA and will no longer see them on a regular basis - to watch and photograph them as they grow saddens me. I guess I will just have to come back and visit as much as possible!

Black Board Eats

So I have a friend who started this AMAZING website / newsletter with incredible deals from restaurants all around town called BlackBoardEats. If you sign up for their newsletter you get weekly offers of specials from outstanding restaurants to try around Los Angles - and this recession-ista couldn't be more thrilled.

In an effort to help out a friend with a vision as well as an excuse to further practice my craft I have taken photos for some of the weekly restaurants offering specials. This one was my favorite because they ordered up this incredible grilled calamari for me to photograph.

The best part? They gave it to me to take home and it is DELISH!!!!

Check out BlackBoardEats for a special deal next week being offered by this very yummy Italian eatery on West 3rd.

Now pardon me while I go pour myself a glass of wine and enjoy the fruits of my labor!

Maybe there is something to this food photography thing?

Guerrila Shooting

Sometimes you have the best light, the best weather/conditions, a totally mellow baby and all the time in the world to shoot. Other times you have 20 minutes before the sun sets, chilling air with gale force winds and a beautifully dressed mom and babe with the babe all about doing anything but staying still! Regardless you have to work with what you get and sometimes it is this "Guerrilla" style shoot (as coined by mom) that you can get the best real life moments.

In the end - I may not have gotten the photo I had envisioned in my head - but I did get some wonderful candid moments of mum and daughter having some girl time during the sunset at the beach.

The best part? Mum LOVED the outcome - and is willing and excited to do more.

To see more of this shoot - visit my website and look at LuLu in Client Galleries.

I'm LOST

Hulu has become my nemesis.

I decided MUCH to late to re-watch all of LOST from the begining and I am only going to be finished with Season 2 by the time the final season airs tomorrow evening - and that is only if I watch 9 more in the next 24 hrs! Doubtful as I do have things to accomplish - like editing the photos from the 80's birthday soiree I was commissioned to shoot on Saturday night.

But I am addicted to it now.

This season should be exciting, and I can't wait to see Ms. Shelia Kelly - founder of my favorite dance movement class S-Factor on the show. She is a recurring character - most likely an "Other" this season - and all of us S girls who are fans of the show are looking forward to seeing it.

I have been so sucked in to the world of LOST that I am dreaming of plane crashes and jungles, desert islands and "others". I wonder if subconsciously it is what made me decide to go on the 2 week cleanse I started this morning. My dining room table is just pile after pile of fruits and veggies, and the refrigerator is more of the same - and the only protein I bought at Whole Paycheck was fish.

The desert island diet.

Well if it will get me closer to having a body more like Kate - then bring it on.

But I so wish I could pour myself a glass of wine..........No wine on the Desert Island diet!

Day one of the cleanse - this should be fun.

Product Shots - Elique Organics

Last weekend I did my first product photo shoot for my dear friend Elisha - owner of Get Waxed Salon in Venice as well as the creator of her own amazing skin care line Elique Organics - Complete Skin Nutrition. This particular new line is in all antique and vintage glass jars, lined with beeswax along with a beeswax overlay and has been picked up by ABC Home in NYC! I was lucky enough to score a LARGE tub of the yummy skin food lotion - and I have to tell you - my skin is super soft! Way to go Elisha

Shooting products is harder then it sounds, the glass and the silver are VERY REFLECTIVE and it took a bit of trial and error on my part to get it just right. In the end - I basically covered every source of natural light in the room just allowing for a tiny bit to come from the side - used no flash and had a white backdrop which as it turns out was enough light to make the products pop and yet still allow you to see the yummy details in the vintage silver.

Next up - HEADSHOTS of my friend Chad this week and then an 80's themed costume/birthday party this weekend!

I may have started this business with only babies and pregnant women in mind - but the jobs I am getting are spanning many other areas and frankly as a photographer who just loves to shoot - I am not turning anything down!

The mystery behind the pen

I was recently sent this link from a friend for a cool quirky service that I think deserves a nod.

Call me Cyrano - is a service that will help you write everything from resumes and cover letters, online dating profiles, letters to collection agencies and even one hilarious one to people who were having crazy loud lovin sessions and keeping their neighbors awake!

As I am on the job hunt and trying the internet dating thing I am thinking of giving it a try. When you want to say it - but don't have the words, have your own Cyrano for hire.

So cool!
